How I Work
Helping You Heal Through Somatic Experiencing® and Mindfulness
- Marisa ~ Vancouver, BC
A Focus on Connecting Deeply with You
We’re wounded in relationship, and we heal in relationship.
For this reason, building a strong connection with you is the focus of my work with you. I bring an accepting and authentic presence to our counselling sessions, allowing you to feel safe to share your problems.
Research shows that the quality of your relationship with your counsellor is the most crucial aspect of counselling.
Counselling methods and techniques are essential tools, and with a deep trusting relationship, healing and growth will be enhanced.
Like many who have had stressful or traumatic experiences, you may not have had secure healing connections with others. These are relationships where you feel 100% safe to reveal the totality of your pain and your joy – who you are at your core.
By accessing the deepest layers of yourself with an experienced and trusting counsellor, profound healing can take place.
The Healing Path in Counselling
Our goals in counselling are to explore what your life is like and what you want it to be. We then create a bridge to bring these together.
I utilize some of the most effective counselling methods (described below) that are supported by the latest research of the brain and how it reacts to stressful life circumstances.
I support you in developing your values and ways of being in the world. You are unique, and I help you to be the best version of yourself.
I provide practical and creative skills that you can then integrate into your daily life.
Overcoming problem feelings, thoughts, and behaviors take time and patience. The greater your commitment to the counselling process and willingness to heal, the faster you will achieve your goals.
Mindfulness counselling is an approach that helps you sit quietly and listen to what is happening in your mind and body.
It increases awareness and facilitates openness and acceptance to what is getting in the way of your healing without judging your experience.
The insight you gain through practicing mindfulness eventually enables you to accept yourself as you truly are. You then have more choice in how you respond to your feelings and thoughts and how you relate to others.
Mindfulness also helps to calm your nervous system. It is highly effective when experiencing strong emotions, such as fear and anxiety.
Somatic Experiencing®: A Deep Healing Method for Now and the Future
Unpleasant or traumatic experiences impact your emotions and your physical body – Your nervous system gets hijacked and becomes stuck in a pattern of fight, flight, or freeze.
In this way, your body holds the imprint of any stressful event – even if it seems like a minor event at the time.
Somatic Experiencing (SE), like Mindfulness, releases the stuck energy in your nervous system and helps bring your body back into balance. You can then experience the world in a more positive and healthy way than you are now.
You can feel more at peace and more relaxed. It can then be easier to handle the challenges life presents to you with less fear, anxiety, or depression. This can lead to more courage to be yourself and live the life that you want.
The initial session can be 75 minutes and include more time for the standard consent form overview & the intake form.
75 minute sessions are $165.
Subsequent sessions are 50 minutes.
50 minute sessions are $110.
